Kabuki Theater in Tokyo - which venue?

We'll be traveling to Japan shortly and are hoping to attend a kabuki play. I notice there are two theaters, the Kabukiza and the National Theater. Which would you recommend? I gather the kabukiza is the theater that has people from the old acting families performing, but for the unschooled, is the experience different? The seats appear less expensive at the National Theater. Any help would be appreciated.

We saw a bunraku play in Osaka a few years ago - national theater - and it was a fantastic experience.
