We had a great time and did some nerdy teen stuff as well as the usual touristy stuff. If anyone is interested, I did a blog about where we stayed and what we did:

what a labour of love~ I haven't had the chance to read it but thought I'd post quickly to warn people that this is a last-in first out blog system - have to page down and flip over to older posts to get to the beginning.
I laughed though at the view expressed by your friend Keiko that in Japan, married couples sleep separately. Maybe this is custom, or maybe one of them snores....
oops- heh heh, just figured out that your Blog Archive index does work, just had to click on June (11) to bring up the daily index. For some reason, read June (11) as "june eleventh" not, eleven entries for June. Sorry about that, she says, crawling away red-faced.
I'm a techno-idiot- I asked my husband about why the last page comes up first- he wasn't sure either, so we left it.
Thanks for the report Cynthia, sounds like you and James had a wonderful time. Always a pleasure to read someone else experiences in one of my favorite haunts. And it's always nice to have a "navigator" with you on your first trip there and it sounds like James was a great one.
If you ever go back to Japan, come back here first for some friendly advice on things like how to move your luggage while traveling by train in Japan without carrying it and a few other helpful tips.
Aloha!
We did hear about shipping it ahead- but were trying to keep costs down- didn't expect so many stairs without other options though!
Thanks for sharing your blog. You seem to have an ability to find very unique accommadations. While I'm not into 'teenage' geekdom, everything else sounded like an adventure.
Very nice blog postings on your trip. Love the detail and all of your responses to the happenings. I did a dimilar trip w/my son when he was 13 and was into all the manga and Gundham and Ghibli, etc. It has been 7 yrs now and we still say "remember when...?" and relive the trip together.
Nice trip, I'm very interested in Japan and I watch a lot of youtube videos about it.
But from your photos I can see some thing that I never would look for.
Thanks for photos.
