Hello
Based on our schedule, a one-week pass would make more sense since we'll spend the last five days in Tokyo proper, so a two-week pass would be a bit of a waste.
So I was wondering if it's possible to use the Pass while it's stilll valid to buy JR tickets in advance for dates after the Pass expires, or does the Pass require buying tickets just before boarding?
Thank you.

You don't have to buy tickets if you have a rail pass--the seat reservations are free. But only for the duration of the pass. You can get seat reservations for the entire duration of your pass when you validate it. But unless it's a busy travel time, you should be able to walk up and get those seat reservations close to the time you want to take the train. If you absolutely need to be on a certain train, then I'd get the seat reservations earlier. If it's a local train, then you don't need to do anything in advance--just get on the train. Or you can get on the un-reserved shinkansen cars any time--just line up and hope there's a seat! For any travel after the pass has expired, you just buy tickets like you regularly would. And you can buy those tickets in advance.
No, you asked this before and the answer is the same, no they will not issue you a ticket reservation on an expired pass. Why r u trying to get something for nothing?
When you make your seat reservation, the agent will ask for your pass. If you ask for a seat reservation on a day after your pass expires, they will not give it to you.
The Japanese are some of the most polite, respectful, and honorable people in the world. I would not disrespect them by trying to scam them.
In other words OP, you are asking if you can pre-purchase your train tickets for a later date while your pass is valid? The answer seems to be no.
Double post: I mean to say, you can pre-purchase tickets, but you would have to pay for them, the pass won't be valid for those dates.
