Japanese Alps

Jump to last reply

we're planing a 2 weeks trip to Japan, starting from Aug 24th. after a few days in Kyoto, on our way to Tokyo we want to stop for about 2 nights somewhere in the Alps.
first I thought about Alpine route and Kamikochi. but the route is a bit expensive (there are 4 of us so it ends up being quite a lot) and it seems that we won't be able to get from Matsumoto (taking a day trip to Kamikochi from there) to Tokyo after the day trip at a reasonable hour, and we don't want to spend another night because the JR pass won't be valid anymore on the next day.
so I'm looking for alternatives. I was thinking about Kurobe Gorge & Shin-Hotaka ropeway. what do you think? any other suggestions on more thing we can add?
