Itenerary question: BKK and Beach-how to split the days.
We have purchased our tickets! So now on with the rest of the planning. We're thinking of staying at the Mariott R&S or/and at the Ibrik. Then down to the beach-still deciding on that.
Question is, upon arrival in Bangkok head straight to the beach, or spend 2-3 days in BKK (recover from jetlag), head to the beach, then come back and spend the rest of the days in BKK. Or do we arrive in Bangkok, head straight for the beach and then come back to BKK.
Thanks again for your help!

Hi-
We're going for 8 nights and were considering the same. We decided to do 2 nights in BKK on arrival, 4 on Ko Lanta, and the last 2 nights back in BKK.
I considered going to the island straight away, but our flight time will be 17 hours from LAX. Last time we did this same route, we went on to Siem Reap and I got really sick, mostly due to lack of sleep I think (I can't sleep on the plane). So, rather then spend another 5 hours getting to Ko Lanta, we'll go into the city and I can rest if needed.
I think it depends on how long your trip is, what time you arrive and if you can sleep on the plane.

i think the key is how many hours you have spent getting to bkk and what time you arrive....most arrive late at nite from usa so if this is the case then best to stay in bkk for a couple days rest..... marriott is far better and more diverse...pool is fantastic to relax on day 2

rhkkmk- you convinced me into staying at the Mariott. We arrive at noon, but we do want to recover from jet lag and figured the Mariott would be the perfect place. Would you happen to know if it's near the sky train? or any other method of transportation.

the marriott provides a free shuttle boat every 15 minutes to the skytrain at taskim---end of the line....it is very convenient...
not a good way to arrive initially however....take a taxi or limo (800 B)....taxi about 300 B....
you will not regret adjusting your jet lag at the marriott....
