Is there a train from Laem Chabong to Bangkok
Hi guys. We have a cruise planned which ports in LC which is from what I understand two hrs. fro Bangkok. My wife would find it much preferable to get there by train as a long care ride especially if the traffic is bad makes her ill so is there a train we can take? We would like to see the wat pho temple so getting there is our goal.
Thank you.

I wouldn't recommend rail transport from here....my guess is that it uses the same service to BKK as Pattaya, which is once a day. It is a basic carriage and VERY slow.

Bangkok is about 2 hrs away.
Pattaya is much nearer - (1 hour) and has excellent shopping etc..........
you are best off hiring a taxi or similar.

Thank you and I saw there was a temple called the sanctuary of truth which is actually a little closer than the tire so I'm really thinking about going there . Have you heard of this or have you seen it ?

"The Temple (or Sanctuary) of Truth is worth a visit. I haven't bee for a long time and it was rather pricey.
Unfortunately there used to be a diabolical dolphin side-show there...I hope they might have shut that down as it is totally against the philosophies espoused there......

It is on the outskirts of Pattaya ........... you ould take that in and then pop into town.
how long do you have? ...a day or overnight?

iIf you have just a day, I'd suggest you have some local choices -
1 - head South to Pattaya or
2 - try a circuit inland or
3 - check out about 30 km of the coast to the North
you could probably combine 2 and 3.
1 - Pattaya....its got it's seamy side, but don't let that put you off.
There are various "touristy " things Nong Nooch Gardens, Aquarium, Million Year old Stone Park...sadly they all still seem to carry pretty distasteful animal side-shows - but you don't have to support them.
I'm sure the cruise line will point out these sort of things......
Central Plaza is a massive (typical) shopping complex......but lunch buffet at the Hilton there overlooking the bay is quite nice. There is a taxi rank outside Central - I'm pretty sure you'll be able to get a taxi back to Laem Chabang....
Cost from Pattaya to airport is about 1000 baht - standard fare......however they may want more to Laem Chabang even though it is nearer as there is unlikely to be a return fare.
many of the tourist attractions cater for the Chinese/Russian package tourists who are bussed into these places in huge numbers.....so you might want to keep a plan B handy if you turn up to one of the places mentioned and find it's chock full or emmits and grokels.
There are more restaurants of every kind than you could shake a stick at.....
The main beach is vey crowded and you are unlikely to be tempted to swim in one of the designated areas........
(I personally won't go anywhere near TourwithTong as they have unerringly supported the Tiger Temple which is a constant sore in the side of Thailand's efforts to save the Tiger.
Equally distasteful is the local Sri Racha Tiger Zoo - this is nothing more than a tiger farm with a few circus-style shows. - Utterly disgraceful)
This brings us to alternatives to Pattaya
For this you’ll need a car (and driver?)
2 - Inland - there is the Khao Keow Zoo; it’s not so bad....you can drive through it and it is a lot nearer to Laem Chabang than Pattaya...you might get taxi to drive you there and spend some time driving you through it.
This would take in a bit of scenic countryside on the way and plenty of roadside eateries to sample ....... On the way back you could take in the Bang Phra Reservoir - there are some nature trails and the sort of ad hoc collection of eateries just by the road by the lake .
3 - North of Laem Chabang (about 20 km) are Sri Racha, Nong Mon Market, Bang Saen, Ang Sila and Chonburi
Sri Racha, is a coastal town with a lot of good eateries both in the town and along the seafront. Joined to the town by a causeway is Koh Loy, which is a pyramidal island with a temple on top, a pool of long-suffering turtles and a plethora of rather good seafood stalls and restaurants - I doubt if you’d have time to take a boat out to Koh Si Chang island.
There is a large “Robinsons” shopping mall there.
Next is Nong Mon is on the main Sukhumvit highway and sells largely dried seafood and The local speciality is Khao Lam - sweet sticky rice baked inside a bamboo stick.
Turn off the Sukhumvit here ( by the Galaxy - a huge brothel) and a short drive will take you to Bang Saen Beach. This is a seaside town used by Bangkokians as a week-end resort....80% of the beach is covered in deck chair and umbrellas - a couple of chairs for a few hours, some fried rice , seafood and beers will set 2 back about 50 dollars. The beach is long and sandy - the sea is full of rubbish. A bit along the coast you'll find ......
Ang Sila...here they have rows of seafood restaurants along the shoreline and you'll find a seafood bow out is cheaper here as you don't have to rent a deckchair.
If you are feeling gastrically courageous, this place is famous for its raw oysters served with a green sprouting garnish and dried onions and chilli dip....it is quite delicious but I guess you might risk a day or two in the toilet after.
The next town up the coast is Chonburi. Not singularly impressive but a very Thai town - there is a nature trail through some mangroves on the South (Ang Sila) side of the town.
From there you can head straight back along the main “Sukhumvit” road to Laem Chabang.
I'd suggest you check these places out on both Google and Google maps before you decide on where to go.

it represents all that is "bad" about thailand: sex trade on the beach front, sex trade in the hundreds of sex bars, dirty ocean water in the bay, outrageous Russian tourists and russian mobsters...
