Is the Cable Car to Ngong Ping Village in Hong Kong worth it?

I see there is a cable car (or sky ride) from Tung Chung station to Ngong Ping Village. At least this is where I think it goes. Has anybody taken this? The only thing I could find on it was the lines are long to get on it. I would appreciate any ideas or opinions on this. Thank you.

I enjoyed it. We did the regular cable car, not the one with the glass floor. This was a few years ago. There was a line.

The ride is worth it, and the Big Buddha statue is worth visiting (but not the stores or other "attractions" at Ngong Ping Village). Po Lin Monastery used to be worth wandering through, but these days it's okay to skip.

The line for the Crystal Cabins with the glass floors is usually longer, and I suggest taking saving your time and money and just take the regular one.

The cable car closes down for a few days for maintenance on a regular basis. The dates are listed on the web site. It was shut down the day I had planned on taking it!

It can also be shut down unexpectedly, as it is currently (May 1 to May 12). Due to problem with the cables. And of course, during typhoons and also severe thunderstorms.

Take the ferry (from Central, I think) to Lantau, then take the bus up to the Big Buddha (pleasant ride around the island) and take the cable car back down. It's a nice way to spend an afternoon.

I think its worth it. since u are already there its better to try it. Ngong Ping Cable Car is one of Hong Kong’s premier attractions and, while not cheap, if you’re in town for a few days it really shouldn’t be missed. The big pull of the Ngong Ping Cable Car is the breathtaking views over the thick green peaks of Lantau and the shining South China Sea.
