Is Nara (Japan) worth the visit?

I am planning to go to Kyoto and Osaka. I will be spending three nights in Japan - 2 in Kyoto and 1 in Osaka. I've heard good things about Nara, is it worth the visit? also, if so, how long should i plan to spend? (would a 3/4 day be enough?)
Hi Sarita,
Yes it is worth the visit. Yes you can do it. What exactly do you mean by 3/4 day?
When will you be there? Next week or next month, or what?
Found the Kyoto/Nara info pamphlet that I got from JNTO, see www.jnto.go.jp, call them and ask for Kyoto, Osaka, Nara info.

45 or 60 minutes by rail from either city to Nara.

To give an idea of the time needed, here is what they say about sightseeing buses:

At the Nara station, you can get a half-day or full-day bus tour (3 hr 50 min or 7 hr 30 min) Enlish language tapes.

From major hotels in Kyoto, afternoon tour with English speaking guide visits sites in Nara.
Bonjour Sarita,

Yes, Nara is definitely worth the visit, unless you have no interest at all in stunning architecture, history, and are allergic to deers ;-)
Florence,
Considering that Sarita might be a bit jet-lagged, and has only 3 days, do you think I should mention that a short rail/bus trip from Nara will get her to Horyu-ji?
