I have been told by a tour agent that they have cancelled their October tour to Nepal because the country is no longer safe or stable enough for tourists to visit. Is that true?
Is it safe to go to Nepal now?

If a tour operator decides to cancel a Nepal tour because of safety concerns, then there must be something to it! An agency has money invested in the tour, and if safety concerns are strong enough to warrant cancellation and possible loss of income then there must be some truth to it. A spokesman for the Maoist insurgency has come out and stated that tourists are not intended targets (so far!), but stray bullets and bomb shrapnel are not discriminating. There is the fact that there is trouble in Nepal, and neither side seems to be in a compromising mood. Any one of us telling you that it's safe so come to Nepal doesn't alter this fact.
