Is Bangkok SKYWAY Running?

Greetings -

We are leaving for Bangkok in 4 weeks.

Does anyone know if the new tram system is running? I keep reading conflicting stories.

I think they just had some trial runs some days ago. The actual opening of the system is scheduled for December 5th, the King's birthday.

Hi Lynn,

Just returned from Bangkok a week ago. Do you mean tram or train. The new train system is due to be opened on the King's Birthday on December the 5th (as stated above).

Hi -

Thanks. I had read about the 5th but wasn't sure if it was still the target date?

Lynn,

When I was last in Bangkok on 7 Sep and the tram was running but only on a test basis. I think this could be why you are getting conflicting reports. From my room in the Marriot hotel I watched it make several trips. I was also told by some shop keepers that it would "open next month" I assumed they ment October. I will once again be in Bangkok on 1 Nov and I'll let you know what I find out.

From local newspaper, the fares have been finalised, it will be from 10 to 40 bahts (1USD = 40B). The official open date is Dec 5th, HM the King's birthday. The shorter line will be started to run on November 26th.
