I am planning a trip to S.E. Asia this Summer and am thinking about visiting Angkor Wat. To any that have been there or know people that have: (a) is it worth the trek; and (b)is it safe (my wife is a big scaredy cat)?
Thanks in advance for any input.
Is Angkor Wat a safe place to visit?

Angkor is MOST DEFINITELY worth a visit, and is now very safe.
My husband and I were JUST there for the first time from January 23 to Jan 26 (2001), and it was just amazing. Sorry for the cliches, but it honestly took my breath away and left me speechless. It is beautiful - wonderful, intricate carvings on every surface of HUGE ancient walled cities and temples, right in the middle of a jungle. I would be happy to email you some pictures if you want. I really can't say enough about how wonderful it is. There is nothing like it in the world.
Also, it is very safe, now. The OLD problems used to be with land mines and bandits, but the Cambodian government, international groups like UNICEF, and conservation/preservation groups have spent a LOT of time and money over the past few years ensuring that the entire area is safe for tourists. IMHO, the biggest risk in Angkor is sunburn!
I agree with everything the previous
post said. I was there last December.
It was wonderful. Safe & very friendly
people. There could be lots of rain
during the summer months in SE, including
Cambodia.
I agree with both previous posters. Angkor Wat is amazing! If you have the opportunity, you absolutely shouldn't miss it!
