International Cell Phone for China

We will be in China for two weeks later this year and would like to keep in touch with those at home while we are away. We will not be taking our laptop, so e-mail will not be an option for us. The cell phones that we have cannot be used internationally. Can anyone suggest where we can get an inexpensive international cell phone, preferably pay-as-you-go or maybe prepaid. Mobal.com was recommended, but they provide a UK phone number. We would like a US number in case anyone at home needs to call us.
