Indonesia Itinerary help

Jump to last reply

Hey all. I'll cut to the chase. I usually plan everything myself but I'm feeling very overwhelmed with Indonesia. I fly in to Jakarta tomorrow, January 29th on a red eye. I fly out of Bali the 18th. So essentially about 19 days. Those are the only things set in stone.

Considerations:
I am traveling more than anything for culinary research. (I'm a chef)
I love beaches but don't want to be in massive tourist traps for too long.
I don't want to see temples or anything religious unless it's extremely amazing, free, and convenient.
I love trekking for a few hours at a time. Not overnight.
I have two close friends in Bali and would like to see them for at least a few days.
I am on a three month long trip and am semi experienced with backpacking Asia.
I am on a pretty low budget.

Rough plan so far:
Few days in Java
About a week in Sumatra
Go to Bali for a few days
Take a couple days in Lombak
Go back to Bali a couple days before my flight out

Flores looks interesting but I don't know if it's feasible?

There are soooo many airports. Would my itinerary make sense with budget flights? I'd prefer to fly mostly to save time as long as long as the prices wouldn't kill me. I don't know which hot spots to search.

I am not organized at all for my departure so I appreciate anyone's input.
