Indonesia diving

What's the best (keeping in mind budget) place/area to dive in/near Indonesia? We are looking for land-based diving.

Would be going Feb, March or very early April so we need to take climate into consideration.

Thanks!

Karen

There are many good sites all over Indonesia, from Sumatra to Papua. The cost is relative to accessibility: the more remote sites cost more because everything has to be imported and transportation to get there can also be factor.

Bunaken in North Sulawesi has a wide variety of accommodations. To get there you fly to Manado either from Singapore or Jakarta. Also accessed from Manado are the sites in the Lembeh Strait. I'm particularly fond of the Kungkungan Bay Resort. Both Bunaken and Lembeh are worldclass sites, though the focus is somewhat different.

Probably the most cost efficienct diving would be in Bali or Lombok because you have a well established tourist infrastructure. The diving isn't as dramatic as it is in Sulawesi or other remote spots, but it's quite good.

We have driven in Bali...Keep to day light hours, go slow, have a good map and it is easy. Gives you tremendous flexibility.
