Indian Visa - BLS International Update

I posted on one of the previous LONG threads that express considerable concern about lost passports and processing delays. The comments made me a bit concerned as I read them AFTER we had dropped off our passports at BLS in Atlanta. To recap, we made our appointment for last Monday, waited about an hour to be seen, processing our applications and biometrics took about 20 minutes. (Remember, the more supporting documentation you bring, the better! My husband has duel citizenship and a name change and we needed copies of that documentation.). We received an email this morning that our passports are back from the consulate - 5 business days!

One observation, the mail-in process may be the problem. While we were waiting in the large room where processing took place, clerks had stacks of UPS and FEDEX envelopes on the floor next to their desks. These were applications that included passports....they would be opened, processed, and stacked in a pile - all within sight of and access by the many people waiting their turn to be seen. It may just be me, but I would want passports to be processed in a more secure area.

I hope that everyone has as easy a time as we did. We were lucky that one of the BLS sites is where we live!
