India: temperature, weather, packing for February

Ladies - looking for people who've been to the places I am going to in February. What I want to know is how cold it is likely to get, and ideally you'll tell me in terms of what you'd wear (for example - furlined parka, or sundress) -- temperature facts just aren't doing it for me!

Where I'm going: Udaipur, Jaipur, Delhi, Varanasi, and Bombay.

Bombay I figure - like summer in the US, cotton clothes plus a shawl or sweater for airconditioning.

Otherwise - what? Will this be warm enough - t-shirt, pants, cashmere sweater, light leather jacket? maybe with warm scarf? silk undershirt?

That collection of stuff is nice to carry, all light.

Someone is always advising us to take a windbreaker - but I don't ever wear one!! The next level of warm thing for me would be a bulkier
heavier long jacket of something black and shiney with a zipper, that goes over a sweater etc.

To state obvious - don't want to be cold, don't want to carry extra stuff, and want to look like self!

For the north, layers are the key. It can be rather cool in the morning and in the evening but summer-like in the afternoon. My wife wore a lightweight jacket on some mornings and a sweater on others.

I found a good quality pashmina (or two) to be just right in the morning or at night.

In northern section of India, Feb. is actually a very pleasant month. Not too cold, or hot or rainy.
Thus, usually it is quite chilly in the morning. Warmer in the afternoon, almost like US summers.
So, during the chilly part of the day a sweatshirt, a light sweater/jacket or even a pashmina works perfectly.
Once you land in any city in India you should even try to buy a simple pashmina shawl so you do not have to carry one. The price range and quality varies, so you can shop and enjoy the experience and also buy something you can truly use and try right there and buy more for gifts etc. if you like. The designs are beautiful, colors eye catching and the price very affordable. You can also buy them in solid colors of your choice if you do not want designs.

This is very close to my itinerary for Feb. and I had the same question. I am doing Delhi, Agra, Jaipur and Udaipur and am trying to decide how much and what to bring. Friends have been telling me bring a suitcase with a lot of room for the clothes and stuff that I will buy there!

This is all useful - are you all saying that, say, a cotton top and trousers plus a pashmina would be as warmly as I would need to dress?
That's like, say, New York in May or June.

Or are you meaning - top, trousers, some kind of jacket, plus pashmina?

Anyhow I am getting reassured I don't need to take anything heavier than I was thinking of taking.

I would say so, unless you'll be going to a wildlife tour, out walking at night, or riding on night trains, in which case you would want a jacket too.

I had one very light cashmere sweater, and a few times I wore two shawls. But then again, I come from Hawaii, so to me anything in the 50-60 range is COLD!
