Independent Hiking/Trekking in Southeast Asia

A friend and I are beginning a trip in southeast Asia in January, and are interested in nature-centered (as opposed to party-centered as we've found an abundance of) things to do . We are experienced backpackers from the U.S, and are accustomed to long, unguided hikes, camping, etc. I haven't been able to find much info on this kind of thing, and was hoping some of you could help. Thanks!

I suggest a hike up Mt. Kinabalu in Sabah (Borneo), Malaysia. I didn't climb the mountain but I did stay in the park and hike in the forest. It's a wonderful spot and you'll be there then to visit other parts of Sabah & Sarawak.
