Independence Day (Hari Merdeka) 2013

Jump to last reply

Does anyone have any information on Malaysian Independence Day (Hari Merdeka) 2013?

I can find plenty of websites that say August 31 is Independence Day and that there is a big parade that rotates among cities, but nothing stating whether it is in Kuala Lumpur or elsewhere this year (or what time it begins). I also can't find any specific information on the location or timing of the traditional August 30 fireworks.

I'm guessing the fireworks and parade are worth seeing. Any advice on what else to do on August 31? Is everything pretty much shut down, or are there still things that visitors can do?

I have emailed Tourism Malaysia, so I'm hoping I hear back from them.

Thanks!
