In Kathmandu for Dashain or not?

We arrive a few days before the 20th and have also been trying to get information about what Dashain will be like.
The big question is - Should we purposely stay in Kathmandu from the 20-24th to experience the festival or are we better off moving onto Pokhara prior to our trek to escape the close down/slow down of Kathmandu.
I had assumed that it would be great visually and a tourist thing to see.... is this not the case? - not much for tourists to see/do and only a big deal to the Nepalese?
Help us decide please!! Kathmandu or Pokhara during Dashain??
