Ideas for a June vacation ( Cambodia- Vietnam)

I am planning a 25 days vacation around June 10- July 4 period in the Cambodia- Vietnam, Burma area. I believe June is not the best time regarding weather conditions, but probably there may be areas that are still good to visit. Any suggestions ? Thank you so very much Happy Travelers !

June is very hot and humid, but at least all the good fruits are in season!

We are doing Cambodia/Vietnam in August and will be contending with weather issues as well. We are starting in Cambodia-Siem Reap area for 5 nights (to get over jet lag/check out Angkor Wat), then flying into Saigon (4 nights), then flying into Hoi An (for 4 nights), then flying into Hanoi (for 3 nights), then Ha Long bay (2 nights), then back to Hanoi (for 2 nights).

We will be traveling for 20 days (ground time).

From what I have heard about the weather -it is v. hard to predict. I have done a ton of research and it looks like it could rain but for v. short periods of time and then it will be fine for much of the time. But at least it will be not cold!.

Hope this helps!

I have travelled in both Cambodia and Vietnam at this time of year and had a great time. OK the weather is not as good as at other times of the year but the positive is that there are less tourists, it is cheaper and it rarely rains continuously - you will see some sunshine.

For more info on weather see http://www.travelfish.org/weather/cambodia

Cambodia's weather with be pretty much the same throughout the country whereas Vietnam's being a long thin and mountainous country will vary more from north to south.

Rather than worry too much about the weather, I would concentrate on the places you really want to visit.

I haven't been to Burma so cannot comment, but from many reports here, it is an amazing country and, given the recent change of stance by Aung San Suu Kyi on tourism, it is likely to get VERY busy. The wet season arguably may well be an excellent time to visit.
Do let us know what you decide.

Hi Guys: Just arrived from Northern Thailand ( visited Bangkok- Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai) and loved it. I have one month vacation between June 15 and July 20, and would love to visit the area again, but off course new sights. I will do a research on the tips.
Trang: your trip tick should be done by plane or buses-trains can be added ?
Keilor: how did you manage to buy airfare ? Any special tip like visit Asia etc? Costs approx?
Crellston: thank you for the great tip too.
Guys, keep in touch as I have more or less 5 months to prepare the trip and I will probably need your advise.
Happy Travel for 2012.
Jose

hi Jose,

We are using Tonkin Travel to arrange all of our internal flights (we are a group of 12 people on this trip). They are booking all of our flights with Vietnam Airlines.

I have not booked my flights from New York yet (where I am from) but will probably fly Asiana Airlines. So far they are the cheapest.

In my suggestions, you can spend 7 days in Cambodia and 17 - 18 days in Vietnam, with each place your stay as below:

In Cambodia:
3 days in Phnom Penh
4 days in Siem Riep

In Vietnam: From the south to the north
- 3 days in Ho Chi Minh city: Ho Chi Minh city, Cu Chi tunnel, Mekong Delta
- 3 days for leisure in Nha Trang/ Phu Quoc
- 2 days in Hoian (in the central)
- 2 days in Hue (in the central)
- 2 days in Halong Bay
- 2 days in Hanoi
- 3 days in Sapa
- Then back to Hanoi for departure

The above suggestion is for your travel from Cambodia to Vietnam. If you arrive Vietnam first, you come to Hanoi, then you travel to the central : Hue, Hoian then continue head the south to Ho Chi Minh city then you fly to PhnomPenh/ Siem Riep and you departure.

About the transportation, you can travel:
- By airplane between Siem Reap/PhnomPenh to HCM city, HCM city to Phu Quoc/Nha Trang, Nha Trang to Danang (then by bus to Hoian), Danang to Hanoi
- By speedboat from Siem Reap to PhnomPenh ( or by airplane)
- By bus from Hoian to Hue, Hanoi to Halong Bay
- By train from Hanoi to Sapa.

Hope that my suggestion is useful to you.

Well, it is hard to advise.
You should be ready for the weather in these two months, both in Vietnam and Cambodia as it will be either hot or rain.
In Cambodia: Raining season. More rain in July than in June
( However, since weather changed, there may be not much rain then it will be hot)
In Ho Chi Minh city: Wet season
Central coast area ( Hoian,Hue): Hot weather
In Hanoi: Summer time. It is hotter in July than in June

If you want to avoid the rain, you can come to Cambodia first.

Hope that the weather will turn better when you travel!
(As in Hanoi in 2011, it it not so hot as in 2010)
