I'm wouldn't include Brunei in my itinerary - very expensive, not much to see. But if you are consiering Brunei, it sounds like you are planning to go to Malaysian Borneo (Sabah and/or Sarawak). This is a wonderful opportunity to see wildlife, especially orangutans in the wild. You might look for Kathie's Borneo Trip report for more info.
For temples, it's hard to beat Bangkok.
