Hue, Pilgrimage Village or a hotel in town

There's good deals at the moment for the Pilgrimage Village in hue, it looks very nice but the only problem is that it is about 7km from Hue town, they do offer a free shuttle bus service but we've never been very lucky with shuttle buses in the past we usually just miss one and have to take a taxi. We prefer to be near sights and restaurants where we can walk to but I'd appreciate any info from someone who has already stayed there. There's also a good deal on at the Imperial which we're also looking at.
Thanks

I stayed at the Imperial in Hue about 2 years ago. It was a beautiful hotel with a convenient location. My room had a corner view with all windows which offered at great view of the city. Great swimming pool as well. Even if you don't stay I would recommend checking out the rooftop bar in the evening..it gives you a fantastic view of the surrounding area.

I've not stayed at the Pilgrimage Village (I have stayed at Villa Hue) but I wouldn't be too concerned about its location if you want a resort-type setting.

While a hotel in town is nice if you want to stroll along the river or dine there, the major sites require a taxi or boat no matter where you stay. The citadel is across the river (I guess you could brave the traffic and walk across one of the bridges), the pagoda is a mile or so further along, and the tombs are several miles away. In fact, if the map is to be believed, the Pilgrimage Village is closer to the tombs than are the downtown hotels.

By the way, I found the tomb of Khai Dinh to be of little historic or artistic interest (it was built in the late 1920s) and much preferred those of Minh Mang and Tu Doc.

Pilgrimage Village was great experience for me. To live in that settings, I dont mind being away from the city center 7 km.
The point is, even you are in the city center, there are not much things to do at night time anyway, and when you do the city tour day trip, you are already cover mostly everything in this area.
hue is pretty quiet from 9pm.

If I come back, I will stay at Pilgrimage again since they have spacious room, interesting layout and good restaurant. From there to the tombs are pretty convenient.

Also recommend a restaurant name Biet Phu Thao Nhi which is very close by the Khai Dinh Tomb, wonderful lunch.

I stayed at the Life Resort which I was very happy with and is very resort-like but within walking distance of town. They have a gorgeous pool and rooms with terraces on the river and I loved being able to get my laundry done in town, tailor was easy to get to, and various restaurants/shops an easy walk. Plus, they have a great chef there and the restaurant has nice river views and ambiance-was the best food of my 2wks in Vietnam and I tried many restaurants.

My son and I stayed at the Pilgrimage Village a couple of years ago when we went to Vietnam and I must say we thoroughly enjoyed it and never once felt like we were out of town. They have a shuttle bus and a cab is only a dollar or two.

The rooms are very comfortable with a lovely rain shower in a largish bathroom. Day bed out on the balcony.

Pool is sensational with a swim up bar and the breakfast was delicious. We did not eat dinner there as we found a really nice little restaurant in town which we went to each evening. My young son was trying to teach the young waitresses how to speak English so he kept pestering me to go back each night.

The spa is divine though expensive for Vietnam standards but when you compare to Aust prices relatively cheap.

We got exceptional rates - I think about $60.00 and I had read some great reviews on trip advisor.

This year we did Cambodia and the south of Vietnam but can highly recommend PV
