It happened to me last week and was reported in another topic here today. I planned to go to the Indian visa center in NYC to get our visas but my husband's passport did not have any empty pages. When planning any trips, especially those requiring visa in advance, or those that put in full page visas....make sure you have enough pages. If getting a new visa, get one with extra pages. There is even (for the moment) not extra charge for this with a new visa. My husband's extra pages are costing $156 since we needed to expedite it. We are going to Mexico Dec. 19 and that is less than 6 weeks. Taking your passport to an authorized Post Office does nothing. You still have to mail it just like going to the nearest mail box.
How many empty pages in your passport? Empty facing pages?

Hello, Vietnam

This happened to me as well before going to India. My passport had two empty pages, but the Indian visa required three. I ended up having to pay an expeditor - luckily a few blocks from my home, took four days. I think it was slightly less than what you paid because I chose a four day rather than a two day option. Mr. Crosscheck had warned me about this because he needed extra pages a few years ago, but it had been handled for him at work.
Where in Mexico are you going? We'll be in Tulum on the 24th.
We will be at the Hyatt Cancun dec. 19 to 26. Then 5day road trip including Tulum and back to Hyatt Dec. 31 to jan. 4. Staying near Tulum Dec. 29 and 30. Family and friends joining us De. 22 to the end. Got great rate at Hyatt and love the beach there. Come join the party! Funny how in this big world world paths cross. Would love to get first hand prep from you re India!
Ours is a much shorter trip - just five days in eco-huts on the beach with three families, 12/24-29. Sounds as if our dates don't quite work for a GTG. But email me at crosscheck.fodors@gmail dot com to see if we can meet up - I can bore you with our many photos of old guys in turbans. (No guarantees, however. This is our first family vacation since the boys are both at college!)
