We have seen the Boston GTG out there on the east coast, and the Hawaii GTG way way out there in the Pacific- now how about something in between? We are talking Houston-Space City. I know there are a few regulars on this forum that hail from Houston so how about a GTG at a local restaurant? Of course we would welcome all the regular characters. The wife would like to meet some of you and talk travel. Gloria- if you come I'll promise not to diss the Oriental. Guen - we have a Four Seasons here! Bob- we will try to have cashew chicken on the menu. Since this is the Asia board I'm thinking of having a GTG at a Japanese or Chinese Dim Sum place. The Asian food in Houston is second only to SF and maybe NY. Ok Houston does not make it on anyone's top ten travel destinations in the US but it does have great shopping, low prices and good food. Timing - its best to do it in the fall where the temps are in the 70's.

I don't think the quality of dim sum in Houston is that good, but there are one or two restaurants that are "edible". But regardless where you do this, I'll be there!

BillT - I think if you want to do this, you can't limit this to the Asian board. Have to be everybody on Fodors. We had a small gathering about a year ago for magaritas and it was fun. And I am sure many will be interested for a dim sum lunch, no matter what their travel interests are.

Agreed so should I post this GTG on the Europe Board as well? I did not mean to limit it to just the Asia travelers.

I'll be curious to see what the final decision on a date will be. I'm retired... you just never know!! I might pop in. I sometimes make it to Houston in the fall.

If you out of town and are considering coming, here are a few things to do in Houston over a weekend:
1) Shopping at the Galleria
2) Houston Space Center
3) Take in an Astros baseball game

I'm not sure because if Kathie throws a GTG in Seattle, I'll try to make it there. But, my cousin is from Houston and still lives there although I've never visited her there since she's always coming to California. So, it could be knocking out two birds with one stone. So, who knows....Happy Travels!

Bill-perhaps I'm mistaken, but I thought the city limits of Houston were so expansive that noone is actually out-of-town.

I am from Houston (30 yrs there; have lived just outside of D.C. on Northern VA for the last 20 yrs) and would like to attend, depending on the date and plane fares. My mother is in a new Alzheimer's facility there and I need to get down to see her and my sisters. And I'd love to take my son (who is a high school pitcher) to some Astros games.

There are lots of things to do in Houston! My husband and I have spent many long weekends there. He is from CT but has come to enjoy Houston. Minute Maid Park (where the Astros play) is wonderful, and Inn at the Ballpark right across the st. from it the ballpark is a wonderful and tastefully done ballpark themed hotel (think Ted Williams and Yaz photos in the bar, and a wonderful bronze statue of a player swinging the bat when you enter the hotel).

Actually, the downtown area around Main St. has undergone a nice renovation in the last few yrs. and there are many good dining options along the above ground "light rail" system that runs from the museum district through downtown. And the museums in the museum district are very good too.

I don't know why the Menil Collection museum is not listed on that website, but it should be! Definitely worth seeing.
