I am planning a trip to Singapore, and have read great reviews on the Orchard Hotel. I am also looking at the Novotel Clarke Quay. Has anyone stayed at either hotel, and offer some advise between the two?
Thanks!

Hi,
We stayed in Singapore ,at the novotel, clarke quay for 3 nights in april.
We were really pleased with the hotel,we had a lovely room on a high floor, overlooking the river, fantastic views at night .
The buffet breakfast was excellant, and the pool area very nice.
We would stay there again if we go back to Singapore.
We found the area around clarke quay must nicer than the orchard road area[unless you are a very keen shopper].
The underground is only 5 mins walk away, and it is lovely to walk by the river, and have a meal there.
Enjoy your stay
sue
I would not have stayed at the Novotel, but I agree that Orchard Road is where so many people would think of staying but it really is just for shopping. If you try a search on Yahoo I should think you will find a lot of places to reviews, or better still on Yahoo Asia.
I go to Singapore regularly, for vacation, but haven't stayed at the Novatel, but I'm a fan of Novatels in general. I would definitely stay in the Clarke's Quay area over the heart-of-Orchard Road- area...especially since there's an MRT(subway) station nearby. You could also try the Rendevous Hotel directly across from the Douby Gaut MRT station and in the heart of things. I stay in this area although I stay at the YMCA Hotel directly across from the Rendevous. My best friend stays at the Rendevous...a four-star hotel. It's one stop...on the MRT... from the Raffles Hotel and shopping center and the beautiful Chjimes complex where's there's a moneychanger... in one direction... and two stops in the other direction from the heart of Orchard Road...It's in an excellent location. Happy Travels!
Guenmai, what is the name of YMCA you stay at? I know students who are looking for somewhere to stop for 3 nights in early January '06.
Thanks
It's the YMCA International House at 1 Orchard Road Singapore 238824 Tel.011.65.6336000. If I were you, I'd call them direct and have them hold a room with your credit card number and then have them e-mail you the confirmation. If you try to e-mail them, then you'll have to fill out a form over the computer which is a real headache. Happy Travels!
