No, but I recently spent three nights in the GranVia and it was EXCELLENT.
Bonjour Tang,
I've read good review on Tripadvisor, and I've booked a room there for one week mid-December ...
I know it's almost brand new, since I've seen the old building being demolished in 2003 and rebuilt in 2004-05, the location is very good (less than 5 min on foot from the station, close to the Higashi-Honganji).
Hi Dukey
Thanks for your recommedation but Granvia was fully booked for the last week of Nov07.
Bonjour Florence
There wasn't much reviews given in the Fodors'. I will be Kyoto in the last week of Nov07.
Many Thanks for your feedback.
Warmest Regards

We just returned from the Granvia. While it is perfectly adequate, it is nothing special. It is quite generic. It is reasonably priced, had a good shower and a decent breakfast buffet, but it is tired and in need of much sprucing up. So perhaps your new hotel will be the answer.
We stayed there (Hotel Station Kyoto West)about 18 months ago and thought it was good value. I wouldn't compare it to the Granvia, it is much more a budget hotel, which is of course reflected in its price.
We originally booked for a double western-style, plus a triple Japanese style, for our family of 5. Unfortunately, the double reeked of cigarette smoke, so the hotel willingly switched us to a Japanese style room right next door to our kids. These rooms all sleep 6 people, but they were fine with us having 3 in one room and 2 in the other. They are clean and roomy (except the bathroom, which is the plastic pre-fab kind you find everywhere in budget hotels in Japan).
We were very happy with the hotel. It was good value for money, and very well located. In addition to being just a short walk to the station, just across the road there is an entrance to an underground walkway that goes all the way to the station, so if it is cold or wet, you can walk in comfort.
They also had free internet access in the lobby, thermoses to take green tea or water up to your room and a restaurant for breakfast and dinner (we didn't bother eating here, so can't advise on that)
I would caution you that while the reception desk staff during the week speak some english, on the weekend it was a different story. This didn't really cause any problems, unless you need anything special from them.
Another hotel in a similar price range which gets good reviews and may suit you is the Palace Side - this is a couple of subway stops from Kyoto station, near the Imperial palace.
Hi Ozgal
Many Thanks for your detail reviews.Does the hotel accept Credit cards for the room payment.
Thanks and Regards
TangYP
Hi Tang,
Honestly, I can't remember for sure about credit cards. But this is a business style hotel, so I imagine that credit cards wouldn't be a problem. Certainly we tried to pay as much as possible with credit card, and I don't recall there being a problem at this hotel.
You could send them an email if this is important to you. Have you looked at their web page here? http://www.kid97.co.jp/st-kyoto/nishi.html?91,16
Bonjour,
I m staying here right now, and I can confirm Ozgal s review: big Japanese-style room, extremely clean, well located.
I paid with a MC card.
Florence is in Kyoto! Cool! Have fun for me...Toji on the 21st, Kitano on the 25th?
