Hiya guys, thanks for the messages about the currency exchange, will check this out with our bank, we note a good exchange rate currently, so will defintely check it.
Does anyone know anything about the Hotel Phoenix in Singapore? and if so how do they rate it? Is there anything we need to watch out for?
The last couple of times we have been to Singapore we have gone top end regarding food and accommodation, this time we are going cheaper, and really want to mix with the culture, eating at hawker markets etc, also I have a real pull towards visiting Changi Village for some reason, really don;'t know what is out there, can anyone enlighten me?
We have tended to be "done" as far as some meals have gone in the past, and this time really want to experience more, though hubby refuses to sit in Little India and eat next to someone eating with their hands....... LOL......... though I do understand his feelings.....
We have eating chicken stays at China Town and in Clarke Quay before, where it hasn't been expensive at all, what can others suggest for us.
I really want to experience the culture without putting my hubby (or myself for that matter) in a situation he/I is not comfortable with.
Suggestions would be appreciated.

I know the Phoenix quite well. It's top end Orchard with SMRT next to it.
I have used it as price was good ( SGD 120-140 range ). Years back I liked it as it had PC in the room with internet ( charged for ) but over the years that is less of a novelty!
Unless anything drastic has changed there is no pool, no gardens, just a bar in the corner of the lobby, it's connected to a small mall. Rooms fairly small, it's ok, basic, the basement place for breakfast I was not keen on.
I stopped staying as I ventured to other places like the Royal peacock ( small boutique ) and places like Berjaya Duxton.
Recent favorites have been Allson near Bugis and Crowne Prince ( I think name changed now ) on Orchard which became our favorite if going with family.
Royal Plaza on Scotts has been re-done, used to be good value but the price is up I would guess now.
Changi Village, well, unless you are into the WWII history of Singapore I don't know of any reason though I am no expert there, have stayed at le meridien Changi a few times for an overnighter but not much there at all.
Have yo looked at the Berjaya Duxton, that might appeal. What about Inn at Temple Street or 1929 if you want smaller places.
Thinking about all these I wonder why I ever stayed at the Phoenix ! ( I Know, it was the 'rate' which was always a good last minute deal ).
I eat with my hands on a regular basis ( where's that sandwich gone ? ).
A lot will come down to whether a s/pool is important or not, whether you would like one of the smaller boutique style places or perhaps a very standard 3 star like the Allson ( which has excellent facilitise for the price ) near Bugis area.
I should just add though that with the SMRT station right next to it you have that convenience for getting around Singapore, right opposite are shops / Robinsons Mall and others so you are right in the heart of things.
There are a bakery in the lobby area which is good.
I do not know if you are into Theatre / Arts etc but there are always things going on in Singapore. I think you are going in February(?)
