What is your nightly budget? There are several hotels I'd recommend in SR, ranging from an immaculate guesthouse with A/c, private bathrooms and internet at $20 to the luxury Sala Lodges at about $200 per night. Friends though the Anantara was great; other friends loved La Da Kiri Boutique Hotel at about $90 / night.

I stayed in the Golden Temple and really enjoyed it. It's an upper mid-range hotel, near to town, with wonderful service, staff, and amenities. Breakfast is excellent, too.

Recommend highly!

We loved the Victoria Angkor, a Vietnamese-run colonial gem on a park across from the Raffles. Central location, tranquil, authentic - Great pool and bar area. We hope to stay in the other Victorias at some time.

Victoria Angkor- lovely rooms, A+ service, great breakfast spread, and the few meals we ate in the hotel were great.
Pool area is very nice and relaxing, spa is lovely as well.
