Hotel for meeting at Macau Tower

My meeting in Macau has been moved to the Macau Tower convention center. Am I correct that there are not any hotels nearby? I find them in the city center and across the bridge on the next island. The conference organizers are using the Wynn, but I wasn't impressed by the group rate offered. And they plan to bus people to the center, which may make a taxi a reasonable alternative.

So, where to stay?

I'll spend most of my time (8am-6pm) at the conference center and dinner is at the center one night and an off-site location the other.

My friends are also not tied to the Wynn so would consider alternatives.

We'll all be arriving via the ferry from Hong Kong, using that airport.

Macau is a small place. Any hotel is a short taxi ride away, except for the Westin, which is a little further out.

What's your budget? Do you have to prebook? Do you want or need a large casino in your hotel complex?

I need to prebook so I can tell others where to find me. No casino needed, in fact prefer without.

The conference rate at the Wynn is HK$1,050. I budget by finding the lowest priced hotel or other accommodation that I find acceptable that costs the same or less than the conference hotel. That's usually a 3-4* chain or independent hotel or guesthouse. Not a youth hostel and not the Four Seasons. I require clean, safe, quiet, a/c, ensuite bath, preferably non-smoking room. I know the beds are hard and rooms will probably be small.

I'll avoid the Westin. Probably look at other "downtown" hotels near the Wynn first. Tripadvisor has decent reviews of Guia Hotel,Pousada De Sao Tiago, Royal Macau Hotel renovated rooms, and Pousada de Mong-Ha, but they seem to be scattered all over.

You have done your homework!

The Pousada de Sao Tiago is a small hotel that's built on an old fort. It's very nice, and very close to the Macau Tower. More like a romantic getaway type of place, and should be the most expensive of the ones you listed.

Of the other ones, the Hotel Royal (I hope that's what you mean) is the best. A very solid 3* hotel, which together with the Sintra, are my parents' favorite. It's great for sightseeing. Clean and safe.

The Pousada Mong-Ha is run by the tourism board as a venue to teach hotel workers. I've heard good things about it, but its location is less convenient than the others.

Guia is very close to the Royal, but is not as nice.

In general, when I book something like the Royal at the last minute, it costs something like HK$450, weekday. I don't know what price you see. If it's closer to $1,000 than $500, then I'll take the much newer and more luxurious Wynn. $1,050 is a pretty decent rate for it, though I believe you have to pay a 10% service charge above it.

Like I said, Sintra or the Royal are very solid choices - safe and clean, no casinos attached, and closer to the old Macau.

Thanks.
Right now Pousada De Sao Tiagois running 1500, Sintra 500-1000(suite), Royal (near lighthouse) 700, and Guia 600. I know it may be early for summer with last minute rates lower.

Any other hotels I should consider? I'm more interested in being near the Wynn or near the Tower than for sightseeing as my tourist time will be limited to one afternoon this trip.

At those prices, I'll take the Sintra for $500 rather than the Royal for $700. Definitely not the Guia for $600.

The Sintra is pretty close to Wynn. 15-minute walk at the most. They also have a free shuttle to Hotel Lisboa, which is across the street from Wynn. The others are further way.

Hotels closest to the Wynn are Hotel Lisboa and the Galaxy Star World. All very large casinos, and I don't think you'll get better rate or better room than your Wynn offer at either of those two.

Thanks so much for the help. I haven't had much time to get them all on a map and figure out the logistics. 15 minute walk in July Macau heat may make my business clothes a joke, so I imagine I am looking at taxis, shuttles, or the conference bus for transportation except when sightseeing.

I'll communicate your advice to my European and Australian colleagues and see where they want to meet up.
Looks like Lisboa is 850-950 and I haven't found a rate on the new Galaxy.

You'll be taking a taxi to/from your hotel to the Macau Tower, unless you're staying at the Wynn (and take their shuttle).

I think your choices are basically:

Sintra - If you want cheap basic accomodations

Wynn - If you want modern luxury and convenience to the shuttle

Sao Tiago - If you want something different and romantic.

Well, since there isn't a hotel by the Tower, my friends want to stay either at the Wynn or nearby. Liboa is offering 850+tax versus the Wynn 1050+, so it's about $30US to stay at the Wynn, which gets better reviews than the Lisboa.
