Hotel de la Paix worth it?

I tentatively booked Hotel de la Paix for 5 nights (2 rooms). I have read all the reviews on Trip Advisor and on this board but am still torn about whether it is worth the extra cost. It is $50-150 more expensive (per room, per night) than the FCC and the Victoria.

I've read mixed reviews about the FCC. Not too sure about the Victoria. Can anyone tell me if construction is still going on near the Hotel de la Paix? Is the Hotel de la Paix within easy walking distance to town (for food and drink!)? Any more opinions on the FCC or Victoria? We would prefer a hotel with a bit of character, smaller and boutique if possible....

Any and all input is welcome. It is so hard to decide!

Thank you again for all of your help.

We loved the hotel when we stayed there two years ago. We had actually switched from the Victoria with no regrets. I am sure you'd be very happy with the Victoria though as I have seen very few bad reviews. The HDLP has an excellent restaurant both for dinner and for breakfast. Hopefully breakfast would be included in your rate. Regardless of where you stay, you needn't worry about being within walking distance as transportation is cheap - tuk-tuks will take you anywhere for a buck or two.

In my opinion and based on clients reports the Victoria wins hand down both for price and location.

The Hotel de la Paix is on a busy noisy street and there are virtually no grounds - walk out from the hotel onto this street. Plus there is still construction going on outside. It is overpriced (of course most hotels are here) and as one person the standard rooms, amenities and housekeeping are more like a 4 star place rather 5. However many people rave abour this hotel

The Victoria has lovely grounds and faces a nice park. Rooms are a good size and well equiped, nice pool, great staff nd over a $100 cheaper than the HP.

all hotels in that town are way over priced....

you spend very little time in the hotel as you really do not go there for the hotels, rather you are there for the ruins, so why pay more than necessary....save it for great hotels in other locations...

HDLP is on a buy corner, but our room which faced the street and the new construction across the street was very quiet...good windows??

It is walking distance to the central part of town, or you can take a tromo for 1-2 dollars.
There is a nice courtyard and lovely meandering pool. It just doesn't have huge grounds for strolling, but with all the walking we did t the temples and in town, we were not at all into strolling the hotel!

We loved the Victoria - great location on scenic park, authentic Colonial replica inn, good food. Although the HDLP looked very cool, it is located on a busy corner across from a massive construction site (I think they're building a mall). It's much closer to the old market area, but the Victoria is just a 15 minute walk or a 3 minute tuk tuk ride away.

We found that we did spend a good deal of time at the hotel between early morning and afternoon sightseeing sessions, and the pool area at the Victoria was magnificent and relaxing.

We loved HDLP and felt it was worth every penny. Our room overlooked the main street but we never heard any noise at all from the construction. Although there aren't park-like grounds, the hotel lobby is fabulous and the pool area has lots of greenery and is very relaxing. I had originally booked the Victoria but when I found out about HDLP, I switched. If we ever return to SR, we would definitely stay there again.
