11th - HK
12th - HK
13th - HK
14th - depart from HK to Shanghai in the morning
15th - Shanghai
16th - Shanghai
17th - depart Shanghai to Beijing at night
18th - Beijing
19th - Beijing
20th - Beijing
21st - Beijing
22nd - Beijing
23rd - depart Beijing to NYC
What do you think??????

i like it.. you could have more time in HK, but there is lots to do in beijing, so you really can't take away from either it or S... don't forget about jet lague, which will affect your HK time..
I think you are spending the proper amount of time in each city.
From HK to Shanghai check Spring airlines. To Beijing you could fly or take the fast train. I like that train as it is quite comfortable and nearly the same time as flying taking everything into account.
Now I'm getting confused by some feedback...Do you guys think its a good idea to substitute Thailand for our Shanghai portion of our trip?
You have two days in Shanghai and that is an ok amount of time for Shanghai. It's not sufficient time to visit Thailand. Save Thailand for another trip.
no
I don't understand the Thailand reference -- some information seems to be missing. Furthermore, if you have a Chinese visa for this trip, unless you have a multiple-entry visa and plan to go back later in the year (which you haven't indicated), I would take advantage of your single-entry visa to see more of China than Beijing on this trip.
In any event, I think that your original itinerary is nicely balanced and makes good sense.
We were just thinking of substituting in a few beach days between HK and Beijing and skipping Shanghai. We wanted to go to the island of Koh Samui and spend like 3 days there and fly to Beijing directly from there. Maybe this is not the best way to go and we should just stick to Shanghai as planned. Thank you for your suggestions.
