I am going to Hong Kong on vacation for my first time. The Courtyard by Marriott has excellent ratings, and I can get a great deal, but I am concerned about the location. Has anyone stayed there? Is it inconveniently away from the subway?
I like the idea of staying in an area that is not touristy, as long as there is enough good stuff in a few blocks of the hotel to eat or see or at night.
Thanks, Inor

inor, I replied on the post you added to the other thread, see http://www.fodors.com/community/asia/hong-kong-hotels-mandarin-oriental-island-shangri-lajw-marriott-marriott-courtyard.cfm. The neighborhood is quite interesting, and several good restaurants in the neighborhood (including a place which has the best cha xiu bao in Hong Kong IMO) or within a reasonable distance by foot, taxi or public transport.
We stayed at the Courtyard for 6 nights at the end of October. We liked it very much and the price was good value for HK. The rooms were not large but not tiny either and well-appointed. Two of our rooms had good harbour views and the third room had a fantastic view. The hotel runs a free shuttle bus every 30 minutes from 7:30am until 10am M-F and from 10am to noon and 4pm to 6pm on weekends. The shuttle stops at the Shun Tak Center (TurboJet terminal), the IFC (Star Ferry and nearby bus terminal hub), the Citibank Tower, and the Pacific Place II mall (Victoria Peak tram). There are no return pickups. We found the shuttle very convenient. See the hotel website. The tram is 1/2 block away from the hotel and can be seen from the hotel lobby. It is a fun and cheap way of seeing HK. Also, I noticed buses directly across the street from the hotel lobby marked "ladies market". We used the MRT only on the Kowloon side. Unfortunately, we did not find the good neighborhood restaurants Cicerone referenced but the MoMo Cafe was fine, we found some acceptable, not great neighborhood places, and taxis were cheap to get to Central. The conceirge staff was very helpful, and gave excellent, accurate advice. Although not a 5* luxury hotel the service was very good and we enjoyed our stay at the Marriott Courtyard.
I can spell concierge; sorry for the typo.
