Hong Kong in late October

Jump to last reply

Later this year we are flying to Europe via Bangkok and returning via Hong Kong. Our accommodation in Bangkok (in August) is pretty much settled, and I am now looking at Hong Kong hotel accommodation for 23 & 24 October. But I am absolutely staggered by the price of hotels that are coming up on expedia, venere, booking.com etc and on the hotels' own websites. They are at least double what I am being quoted anywhere else on our travels!

I was getting quite dispirited, but then - just by chance - one pricing attempt accidentally retained the dates I was using yesterday when doing our Bangkok bookings for August. Lo & behold - the prices displayed for the various Hong Kong hotels suddenly halved from what was coming up for October! So my question is, why would Hong Kong hotel prices for October be double what they are in August? What's going on? I've done a google search, but all that comes up is a Munich-style Oktoberfest starting on 27 Oct - but that's a couple of days after we've gone.

Any ideas why their prices might be shooting up so drastically from the norm? Thanks.
