Honeymoon to Bali

I have always wanted to go to Bali and I will be going on my honeymoon in mid-December. Is this a good time? And I can't decide if I should stay in a hotel or rent a private villa. They both sound wonderful, but I want both the privacy and the sight-seeing, adventure, etc. as well. Anyone been? Any suggestions? Thanks.

December is the second wettest month of the year. I was there in April so I'm not sure if that means rain 24/7 or just periods of heavy rain each day (i.e. Florida.)

In terms of rooms, all the rooms at the Four Seasons in Jimbaran Bay are private villas. That could provide the best of both options. However, it is expensive.

Good luck. Oh, BTW, at that time of year it is entering the high season in Thailand, specifically Phuket. That means significantly less rain the Bali.

Mid-December is fine, it's also just before the start of the high season here in in Bali, so still not too crowded. As with everywhere, weather is impossible to predict with 100% accuracy, but usually if there is rain it will be for a couple of hours each day, usually starting late afternoon. Remember Bali seasons are the same as Australia, so it will be hot in December.

Since this will be your first trip to Bali I would suggest staying in a hotel, so you can call the front desk for any problems or questions. (especially if you've never seen our lizards before, which are harmless a little scary for some people) If you're staying in a 5 star hotel the service will be absolutely excellent, with friendly staff waiting at your beck and call. If you're interested in seeing the most of Bali you might want to split part of your time in the beach area like Jimbaran and part of the time in Ubud (where I live) to see the culture and arts. If you have any questions about Bali you can send me a private e-mail.

I know someone who went to Bali for her honeymoon for a week in December. It poured the entire time! I know weather is difficult to predict -- it may be sunny the entire time too -- but you need to know that's a possibility.
