Thanks to everyone who has helped shape our honeymoon itinerary! After much planning, here is what we've narrowed it down to..Would love to hear from you about must see/must do's in the cities mentioned.

3 days in BKK at the Sukhothai(both of us have been there before)

3 days in Chiang Mai (sheraton)

3 days in Angkor Wat (toss up between FCC and Shinta mani)

3 days in HKG at the JW Marriott

3 days in Singapore at the Raffles Plaza.

Would love to get some information on shopping as well...any pearls of wisdom re shopping, accomodations and sight seeing will be appreciated.

A bit of everything. Stuff for the house - cushion covers/curtains/decorative art, fabrics, clothes...you name it!

That's a pretty general list. Let me start by saying that you are visiting a lot of places in a short time. You won't have enough time to see the major sites let alone do in-depth shopping. So I think you have to shop "on the fly." (I'm assuming your 3 days in each place do NOT include flight days - if they do include flight days, I'd recommend you reconsider) Of the places you listed, shopping will be best in Thailand, both Bangkok and Chaing Mai. There isn't a lot to do in Chaing Mai other than shop, so it's likely the one place where you'll have "shopping time." You'll find more cosmopolitan goods in Bangkok, but many things are cheaper in Chaing Mai. For fabulous fabrics in Thailnd, I'd recommend Jim Thompson. Go to the outlet stores - you'll find fabrics for half price for draperies, coverlets, etc. Both Hong Kong and Singapore are relatively expensive.

kathie has given you excellent advice about fabrics...jim thompson is excellent, albeit expensive...that's where the outlets come in...he has two...one further down (nearer the river) on suriwong from the main store (has fabric only)---make sure you go to the main store...have lunch there on the 2nd floor...the other, bigger one,is on soi 93, sukhumvit road...take a taxi...its on the left side of 93, down about a full block or two...distinctive JT brown sign out front at both....

robinson's department store (we found the chitlom one to have the most) is a good place for seat covers, pillow covers, etc...ask for a discount if you buy a bunch....very reasonable....JT also has this type of thing .....
don't know if you are open to it or not,but i would cut out chaing mai and add on to bangkok and hong kong...if this breakdown does not exclude travel days then i definately would cut out CM and/or singapore....otherwise you are going to see very little and do very little shopping....you have to allow about 1/2 day for the logistics of an asia flight in a major city never mind the flight....

Just came back from Bangkok yesterday, stayed at the Metropolitan Hotel, one of our best hotel experiences ever. this is just next to the Sukhothai. Unfortunately, the Sukhothai's signature restuarant Celadon is closed for renovations.
I recommend the VERTIGO BAR at the top of Banyan Tree, next to Sukhothai. Its on the 61st floor, at the top, and offers an exhilarating 360 degree OPEN AIR view of bangkok. And all that for the price of a drink BHT 250-300 (USD 8-9)!!
Go there at 6pm and watch the sunset. Don't say you didnt know about this!
For dinner, try CYAN at the Metropolitan. At BHT 2500 (USD 60) tasting menu (6 courses) you get cutting edge modern cuisine at its finest. This meal puts it 'up there' amongst my all time best, ahead of France!!

Bangkok - Pl budget half a day if you go to the JT Sukhumvit Soi 93 outlet. IT is far out of town and chances of getting stuck in traffic on Sukhumvit road are high. I love the outlet and always post about it but do not know if it makes sense on a 3 day trip. Central Chitlom has an excellent Thai crafts floor where you will get a good range of home stuff. You are reasonably close to the flagship Jim Thompson store on Silom Road - DEFINITELY worth going to even if you do make it to the outlet as the outlet has end of season, discontinued ranges, remnants, etc. so the stuff at both places is different. You may also like to buy some Thai silk at Narai Phand round the corner from Central Chitlom. DEF an evening at the Suan Lum Night Bazaar - your hotel is near it and it is a fun shopping and browsing experience. Sukhumvit SOi 23 has one of my favourite home stores - a small treasure trove of high end, luxury products - Almeta - www.almeta.com. For textiles I like Sop Moie.

Thanks! I realize that its an ambitious trip but we suffer from the same old coming from North america for 2 weeks syndrome! Thats all the vacation we can get! Looks like I now have places to shop and eat..has anyone got any insights into the hotels mentioned?
