Honeymoon in Sri Lanka - help/ideas

Hello!

I am planning my honeymoon to Sri Lanka, so far my itinerary is as follows:

1 night Colombo

3 nights Habarana

2 nights Heritance Tea Factory

5 nights room and breakfast Fortress

We are keen to spend time exploring in Galle, but The Fortress where we are planning to stay, is in Koggala (about 30 mins from Galle)

-Are we best to eat in the hotel every evening or are there good options for eating out in Galle
-Is it easy to get to transport around the area in the evenings - is it safe?!

We don't want to be trapped in a resort for 5 nights so is it better to stay centrally in Galle?

Many thanks!

A few comments:
I assume you are staying in Colombo because you want something close to the airport. Negombo is much closer to the airport than Colombo.

Three nights in the Cultural Triangle (which is just two full days) is not enough to see the major attractions there. You would need another day if you wanted to see Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya, Dambulla Cave Temples, and the elephant herds at Habanara. I'd highly recommend that you add a day to this stay.

Tea country is lovely, but you will have just one day there - and long days of driving on either side of this.

If you want to explore Galle, stay in Galle. Yes, there are plenty of good places to eat in Galle. There are lovely places to stay in Galle.

Are you hiring a car and driver for your trip? I highly recommend it.

We loved our time in Sri Lanka.

We stayed at Villa Araliya near Negombo our first night, an inexpensive guest house.

In the Cultural Triangle, we stayed at the Kandalama near Dambulla.

In Kandy, we stead at the Kandy House.

In tea country, we stayed at Tea Trails.

We planned to stay at Fort Printers in Galle, but ended up cutting Galle from our itinerary... not enough time!

Hi Kanderson!

You can try Jetwing Lighthouse if you want to stay close to the town. Kathie is right. There are plenty of good places to eat in Galle. Have you thought of a car rental company for your trip?

The itinerary looks good.

If your like to hop out for dinner etc while at the beach I suggest to go to nearby Unnawatuna Beach at sunset and for sea food BBQ jumbo prawn lobster fresh fish etc at a restaurant called Lucky Tuna at Unnawatuna Beach. Also at Mirissa Beach you can find similar nice beach restaurants with fresh seafood BBQ's. Both these locations will be about a 10 minute tuk tuk ride from the Fortress. IMHO it is quite safe to go about in a tuk tuk after dark even till late. If your have a rental car with you so much the better. Many tourists these days also hire a scooter and hop about in this but I don't recommend this after dark and also absolutely do not ever try to drink and drive/ride, the cops are very very strict here now.

Enjoy - Sri lanka!

Wijaya Beach is a small place, does great wood fired oven pizzas, it is also a popular hang out in the mornings for a sea swim and some beer, cocktails etc.

There are many tuk tuk drivers today and they all have mobiles. What I suggest you scout out a couple of guys near your hotel and note down their numbers, they are quite amenable to be called and come and pick you up etc.
