Hiroshima Day Trip from Kyoto
Any thoughts on the following three options for Sunday July 13 day trip from Kyoto? The main purpose is to see the Hiroshima Peace Memorial. A secondary purpose would be to see Itsukushima Shrine but thought that might be too aggressive. Noticed there were fast return trains through Himeji and thus gave the idea to stop there,
OPTION 1. Hiroshima 3 hours to see Peace Memorial, Himeji 3 hours to see castle under reconstruction.
OPTION 2. Hiroshima 2.5 hours to see Peace Memorial, Miyajima 2 hours to see Itsukushima Shrine.
OPTION 3. Hiroshima 8 hours
In particular, would use "green" JR Pass.
OPTION 1.
Kyoto-Hiroshima (Hikari) (119 minutes), depart Kyoto 8:02, arrive Hiroshima 10:01.
Hiroshima-Himeji (Sakura) (55 minutes), depart 13:58, arrive 14:53
Himeji-Kyoto (Hikari) (54 minutes), depart 19:01, arrive 19:55
OPTION 2. .
Kyoto-Hiroshima (Hikari) (119 minutes), depart Kyoto 8:02, arrive Hiroshima 10:01.
Hiroshima-Miyajimaguchi (Sanyo) (26 minutes), depart 13:18, arrive 13:45. Walk 300 meters to ferry Miyajimaguchi-Miyajima. Ferry to Miyajima, arrive about 14:45.
Miyajima- Miyajimaguchi. Depart Miyajima 17:00 to take ferry back to Miyajimaguchi.
Miyajimaguchi-Kyoto, depart 18:34, arrive Kyoto 21:20 [Sanyo to Hiroshima, Sakura to Shin-Osaka, Kodama to Kyoto]
OPTION 3.
Kyoto-Hiroshima (Hikari) (119 minutes), depart Kyoto 8:02, arrive Hiroshima 10:01.
Hiroshima-Kyoto (115 minutes), depart Hiroshima 18:56, arrive Kyoto 20:51 [Sakura to Shin-Osaka, Hikari to Kyoto]
Hiroshima 3 hours to see Peace Memorial, Himeji 3 hours to see castle under reconstruction.

Are you aware that Hemiji is undergoing reconstruction?

Is there any chance that you could spend a night on Miyajima? Seeing the Itsukushima Shrine at both low and high tide is a wonderful thing to do, and exploring Miyajima is well worth it IMO. I stayed at Momiji-so, which is a much more affordable ryokan than many:

As for Hiroshima itself, I'm sure the timing really varies from person to person. As I recall -- and I could be wrong -- I spent 4 or 5 hours visiting the A-bomb dome, Peace Park, and Peace Museum. I thought them very moving.
I know I'm not answering your question directly, but hope my response is helpful nonetheless.

Your options 1 and 2 sound incredily rushed and by my read, have not accounted for travel time between the Hiroshima train station and the Peace Museum, A-Bomb Dome, etc. I especially found the A-Bomb Dome very eerie in the November twilight.
Without hesitation, I'd vote for Option 3.

You picked a good choice for your Kyoto departure train. There is an earlier Hikari that goes from Kyoto to Hiroshima, but am sure you saw that.
Having chosen the departure train from Kyoto, I suggest that you not be concerned with meeting the rest of the schedule that you made. All you need to know is the last Hikari departure from Hiroshima to Kyoto OR the last departure from Himeji that you can use with your JR Pass. And then you just need the ferry schedule, if you go to Miyajima.
From Himeji there are good options at least as late as 20:52
From Hiroshima, depart as late as 19:47. Plenty of earlier options in both cases.
Your schedule has 17:00 ferry from Miyajima and then Sanyo Line from Miyajimaguchi at 18:34 to Hiroshima station. That 1hr 34m seems like a lot of time. But that's ok, you would probably just get to Hiroshima station on an earlier train.
When considering Miyajima, take a look at the tide table for the day that you would be visiting. Here is one site with the info you need: http://www.tides4fishing.com/jp/hiroshima/itsukushima as you probably want to avoid a low tide.
OPTION 4: Hiroshima Peace Park and a stop at Okayama Castle and/or the Okayama Korakuen garden.

My first question is the same as Kja's -- are you able to adjust your itinerary to allow you to overnight on Miyajima? Although the key site is the Itsukushima Shrine (and it's famous floating gate), the island is a lovely one to spend a little time on, plus it's fascinating to be able to see the floating gate at both high and low tide, walking out onto the sand at low tide. I'd also recommend a walk up to Daisho-in, which is a lovely, serene temple -- I particularly enjoyed the prayer cylinders on the stairways and the 500 Buddha statues.

We stayed in Auberge Watanabe, a traditional, family-run ryokan, very well located for both the shrine and the Daisho-in temple.
For us, a half day at the peace park (to see the dome and the museum) was very enjoyable, and we had lunch in the area before heading to the ferry terminal and crossing to the island early afternoon. We left mid-morning the next day.
