Help with Borneo

My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Singapore in December after Xmas - have 8 days and 7 nights, which we know is too long in Singapore (he studied there, so knows it). We are thinking to go to Borneo for about 4-5 days.

Suggestions on where? We prefer not to have to change hotels every day - would like a base, with day trips, perhaps staying at one of the nicer hotels. We are looking for cultural experience more than adventure travel. I realise there is too much to choose from - Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei - how to decide? Help!
