Help! Selecting a Thai beach!
I'm going to Thailand the last week in may and first week in June, and towards the end of my stay I'm heading to the south to get in some nice relaxing beach time! I'm a solo traveler, I'm 27, I want a destination that'll be somewhat secluded, but not too far off the beaten path that it'll be difficult to get to. I really just want to relax all day, read a good book, maybe do some snorkeling, and some light swimming. The natural scenery is very important to me! Originally I was interested in krabi for the stunning karsts but it seems to be too crowded/touristy, and I've heard to avoid the andaman coast in June. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

It is true that the Andaman Sea side of Thailand is wet at that time of the year. Koh Samui will have better weather as will Hua Hin.
In any of these places, there are areas that are busier and areas that are quieter.

Ao Maneo beach, just outside Prachuap Khiri Khan (PKK) fits your needs.
It's inside the Wing 5 Royal Thai Air Force Base. All you need to sign in is your passport (or copy), and a pushbike to cycle the couple of miles to reach the beach and food courts. You even cycles across the runway (make sure it's a green light!).
Wing 5 is an operation air force base, but it's very quiet. The beach is gorgeous, and set in a sweeping bay, and kept in pristine condition by the air force servicemen...

Monday to Thursday it's very quiet. But busy at weekends. Several food courts, who'll deliver your food freshly cooked to your sunbed right across the road on the beach.
PKK is an hour south of Hua Hin by train. The best train to get there from Bangkok leaves daily at 0805 (train No.43). The fare is reservation only and costs about 410 baht, which includes lunch. Takes 4 hours, and much more comfortably that going by road.
PKK is a laid back provincial town, and as yet hasn't been hit by mass tourism. We stayed a week at the inexpensive Golden Beach Hotel, which is right on the beach, and loved it.

Head for Koh Tao. !! Cute island with good weather in summer. My husband + I love it there, very relaxed--Baan Mae Haad= main village with action ---book something on north Sairee Beach - quiet, restful. We call it "a girls island"
. Loads of young girls/folks alone and no pestering! Safe and nice. Scooter if you are good at it. Rent a boat + snorkel in the north "Coral Bay/Beach" . If feeling up to it and if full moon - check out full moon party at Koh Phangan ( short ferry ride). Parties not like 15 yrs. ago but still a must do.
