Help please with my Nepal Itinerary

Am thinking of visiting Nepal from India --- issue is for how long? We are debating either 4, 5 or 6 days, but not sure how much time we need. Definitely want to see Kathmandu, and possibly Pokhara, based on what we've read. Is this doable in 5-6 days? What is the best way to get from city to city?

We are not trekkers, we mainly want to experience the culture, city and the views of the Himalayas. Thanks.

I enjoyed Pokhara more than Kathmandu. I wish I had more than 2 days in Pokhara. If nothing else than to ook at the beautiful scenery around the lake.

My experience of Kathmandu has been that it's fairly drab, coming across as a grubbier version of any Indian small town. One whole day in the city should be more than enough.
You might want to explore the possibility of visiting Bhutan instead.

Hello Taia,Greetings From Nepal
Nice to hear that you are heading to Nepal as your message said that you like to see the Kathmandu valley as well as all over Nepal in certain time so if you have time here in Nepal only for 5-6 days then you may go some interesting places like some old heritage sites near by kathmandu like as Pashupatinath Temple,Boudhanath Stupa,Syambhunath Stupa,Kathmandu Durbar Squar,Patan Darbar Squar,Bhaktapur Durbar Squar and many mores temples and musiuems as well as if you go abour 32Km east from kathmandu then you will reach at Nagarkot which is lies on the hill areas and that is one of the attractive place to view the himalayan range from east to west.
And another options for you is you may visit to Pokhara which is second touristic city in Nepal and mostly people visit through this areas for trek purpose but as your time frame donot shows that you may able to do the trek but still you may hike near by kathmandu and up to Nagarkot(about 3 to 4 hour)and stay overnight there. So, for further details pls fee free to let me know that as i am in tourism since 7 years working with different people from different countries. And I hope I will be able to share my experiences with you and your time...thank you

my daughter and I are planning a trip to Nepal in May after 3very quick days in Delhi and Agra. Seems like 6 days are not enough time. First of all, there are several world heritage sites around KTM. Then there is the village of Nargakot on the KTM rim that is supposed to be superb for viewing the Himalayas and getting a taste of life outside of KTM. Then there is Royal Chitwan National Park and all that has to offer. Between those 3 destinations, we do not have time to fly to Pokhara. (next time.) the ONLY positng I have read that describes Nepal as darb is the one below. Read threads here, on Frommers and at Thorn Tree (lonely planet, then make up your own mind.) it is an incredible part of the world, and as per today's NYT Travel Section, very much on the rebound.

We had a week in Kathmandu and around 2 weeks in Pokhara in Nov 2006. I think Kathmandu deserves 3 days at there is much to see. Pokhara is glorious with the Himalayas right in your face. If you have such a short time you've no choice but to fly.

Taia, if you can give yourselves the full 6 days it will be worth it. Spend 2 full days in and around Kathmandu. Visit the Monkey Temple, Pashupatinath, Bodanath, Bhaktapur and cathch a taxi up to Nagarkot for a beer and sunset or coffee and sunrise. Pokhara is a fun place and activity around Phewa Tal. Have fun.
