Help Please - First trip to Thailand, 10 days

Jump to last reply

My husband and I are going on our first trip to Thailand in late August. We’ll have only 10 days. I’m reading it will be quite rainy so am not sure how this should impact our planning.
We enjoy culture, art, history, nature, and adventure limited by bad knees.
We prefer to travel from a base rather than changing locations every night, so are thinking we'll want to stay in about 3 places. In our experience, we also have found that smaller towns offer a more friendly cultural experience, though we enjoy the many things to do in big cities. We like a mix.
At this point, my ideas are roughly: Bangkok for 3 or 4 nights. Chiang Mai for 4 nights. Then either the Anantara Elephant Camp and Resort for 2 nights (a big splurge) or to Koh Samui (or some beach place) for 2 or 3 nights. The west coast looks amazing but I understand the weather will be better on the Gulf side.
Your thoughts on this general plan would be appreciated. Also, elephant camp resort or beach? What about the weather in each location? Suggestions? Thanks!
