Just recently decided that my brother and myself would travel to Asia. We will be travelling to Japan, singapore and Malaysia and thailand, in that order. We will be travelling through these 4 countries during may 24th-June 9th.
Just want to know if people have any advice as to what exactly we should see, ie. specific cities or areas of major interest. japan is covered as i have a friend who lives there and will take us around.
Also if anyone can recommend any hostels they may have stayed at that were good?
I also have a week prior to may 24th to incorporate another location into my trip before japan. However im goin on that one on my own. Just want to know if anyone has any ideas as to where would be a good place for someone to fly solo?? doesnt even have to be in Asia..but preferably en route..as going east bound from toronto is more expensive than travelling west bound.
thanks in advance to anyone who replys. Any information is greatly appreciated! =)

It really depends on what you like to do...what levels of activity/walking/hiking you want. What is more important? Nature or history, for instance?
Mark-
For hotel recommendations, it would be helpful if you provided your budget considerations, i.e., per night expenditure.
Four counties in 16 days - are you sure?
You clearly have to fly from Japan to Singapore. Flight already booked? In which case please say how long you have for the other 3 countries. Were you planning on travelling overland from SNG to BKK?
Places worth seeing? well with such a short timeframe that rather depends on how you plan to get from A to B; where your stopovers will be.
I could suggest some of my fave places - but it took me six weeks to cover those miles; and I had the freedom to decide each day whether to move on; and where to move on to. Bliss!!
I can't quite decide whether this is a troll or just a post by someone who hasn't looked at a map, hasn't done even the most cursory research, or just hasn't a clue any which way. Maybe you won a free flight OP?? something like that, perhaps?
Look, one possibilty is Singapore - bus to Melaka - train KL; train Butterworth and get yourselves to Penang.
Or there's National parks you can visit but more time-consuming.
Penang would be good, cos from there maybe you can fly to BKK. You could go to Chang Mai for another slice of Thailand (overnight train) or you could go to Kanchanaburi, or Phuket ( I suppose), or x or y, or z.
As for somewhere for the week before. Look - such things are usually decided on the basis of where you CAN STOP given flight routing. Unless of course you have money to burn in which case you can a plane to take you almost anywhere.
From Toronto - jeez, I don't know. Whatever flight you take will have to re-fuel somethere. Best guess - Sydney - wonderful place, or Auckland - OK and some great places to see thereabouts.
Do let us all know what you decide.
