Malaysia is a big country with lots to see and do. There is enough in Malaysia to keep you busy for many weeks. Whether to also see Singapore depends upon what your interests are.
So start by telling us what you like to see/do/experience so we can suggest some appropriate locations. Then tell us what price per night you consider to be reasonable.
Thanks Kathie for yr response, basically its our first time visit to malaysia,we like exploring, getting to know new cultures,we also like the beach. so with the time in hand which are the"must see" places.
as far as the hotels are concerned we are looking at something within 65usd with brkfast.
Must see places for me would be Penang and Malacca for culture, food and a mixture of cultures (malay, chinese, indian & colonial). Langkawi for the beach & maybe a tour of the mangrove forests. For budget accom try www.hostelworld.com as a starting point. Once you have decided on location it will be easier to rec specific hotels.
With 5 nights, you have time for a maximum of two locations (plus one night in KL before your international flight home). I'd suggest Penang (Georgetown area) as well. You could fly from KL to Penang, stay two nights, take a ferry to Langkawi for beach, stay two nights, fly back to KL, stay one night.
I would agree with Katie that Penang is time well spent. I would talk a late flight out of KL and spend 2 full days there and fly back to KL in the early evening so you have diner in KL.We were in KL in March several years ago and the Cammeron Highlands were infull bloom. this is the most mazing tea plamntation area in addition to observering the nomadic families that inhabit the Highlands. The beauty is awesome. The bad news is it is a full day because by car it is 5 hours round trip by bus I cannot imagine how long it must be. But it was awesome. I do not think we will ever forget the rolling terrain of tea fields and the local people. I rather do that than go up the Petropulos Tower od sights such as that. But with Penang I have taken 3 fiull of your 5 days.
Hi
Thank you all for your suggestions, well it has helped us to decide on penang and KL.But just wanted to know one more thing, due to unavailibility of tickets we have 2nights in penang,we reach in the afternoon, next day is it possible to go to langkawi and come back on the same day? i know it will be hectic but we are short of time and want see the beach there..
If you have two nights in Penang, you really only have one full day. You don't even have enough time to see the highlights of Penang! Going to Langkawi for a day means you'll spend all of your time in transit... you'll see less, not more.
