I have been on four cruises from Florida and San Juan and have seen all the islands. I am ready for something new.
Has anyone experienced a cruise in Asia? I see that they have cruises from Singapore, Bangkok and Hong Kong. What are the best ports of calls, are the places the ships dock safe? Is there alot of beggers at the ports? Which cruise line is best for people of moderate means. What is the typical ages of the people on the ships? Are most people Asian on the boats? Please help.
Has anyone taken a cruise in Asia? Advice?

There's a company by name Star Cruise.. moderate pricing.. the largest cruiseship now is Star Leo.. very nice.. being there in 1999.. very titantic.. but now oni operatingin HK.. whereas for Singapore is Star Virgo.. second largest.. in Singapore & Hk, there's no beggars at port.. dun worri.. most of them Asian..in Singapore will be more Singaporeans.. worth for relaxation..
I just got back from a Princess cruise to asia. It was very nice, and if you look around very reasonable price. Some of the ports were great. It was nice because it covered a broad range of countries - China, S Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Singapore, & Bangkok. My favorite cities were, Shanghai, Singapore & Bangkok. The only place there were many beggars were Vietnam, but in general I thought much less begging than in most US big cities.
The cruise was reasonable but I thought the tours were a little overpriced. If you do some homework before you go you can navigate a lot of the cities on your own or pick up your own arrangements.
The people on the ship: majority over 65 retired anglos - mostly american. Some Canadian, a few Central American. There were probably 10-15% asian. I think mostly asian american. English was the language of the cruise line. There were only a handful of children, a few 20something honeymoon couples, some 30ish & 40ish people.
I would recommened star cruise.you will be surprised.boarding and unboarding will be at the world trade centre (oppsite WTC will be the sentosa),i guess most onboard will be singaporean themself.
Try Star Cruises - their home base is Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia - have a web site - www.starcruises.com They own NCL and Orient lines (or vice versa). The Gemini from Singapore is a ship of about 850 people whilst Virgo out of Singapore and Leo out of Hong Kong are about 2000 passengers. The Gemini does 7 day cruises; the other two only do 5 day cruises at the moment. On the Virgo you will find a lot of Asian people, on the Gemini you will find a lot of Australians and some Europeans. The Gemini is a destination cruise - you visit Kuala Lumpur (Port Klang), Malacca, Phi Phi Island (where The beach was made), Phuket and Penang. The entertainment on the ship is not that varied but you are exhausted from the days out anyway. We found the entertainment more than adequate but you won't get the glitz and glamour like you do on RCCL etc. It is a great cruise. Reasonable prices - NO tipping and great food. There are very few beggars in Asia and none at these ports of call. Typical age would be about 45 - 65 I would estimate.
Also recommend Star Cruises ... good boats, interesting itineraries, and good value for the money. You can learn alot about them on thier web site too.
would Recommended star cruise and also if you are willing to pay a bit more,do get a balcony class room,it really great, sitting there, admiring the seaview.
