GUILIN HOTEL/MERRYLAND
Any suggestions for a hotel in Guilin (is Sheraton o.k.?); also has anyone visited a place called MERRYLAND (I believe is near Guilin that I understand has the only golf court that has to be crossed by boat). As for Xian I have picked the Shangri-la, is the location o.k. Many thanks..

I would suggest the Ligiang Waterfall Hotel in Guilin. It is beautiful and very unique. Every evening at 8:00 there is a gigantic waterfall they flows from the rooftop down the several stories of the hotel into reservior/garden. Everyone in town gathers to watch.
Even if you don't stay there, be sure to see it. I assume you're doing the cruise on the Li River, also. Don't miss it!!!

Shanghainese: Please help me. I am nuts about golf and I would love to play Merryland (I been told just about the most magnificent golf course in the world by someone that has played 173 courses around the world). I would like 2 rounds. Should I go directly from the airport to Merryland and then return to Guilin. I am sure I could be pick-up by Merryland at the airport. Thank you...! Thank you...! P.S.: Yes, I do want to take the cruise too..

pilita -- Yes, you can go directly from the airport to Merryland, I don't know how long 2 rounds take but I'm sure Merryland would be more than happy to arrange for transportation (not by golf cart!) to Guilin. Mao Tse-dong's slogan "Serve The People" definitely rhymes with ka-ching ka-ching.
The Li River cruises all leave Guilin early in the morning going downstream 4-5 hours to Yangshou because it takes the boats much longer to go back to Guilin upstream usually with no tourists.
Ummm, has that "someone" played Mission Hills in Shenzhen? With 216 holes, courses designed by world famous golf legends, it claims to be #1 in the world. I don't play but know enough nutty friends who to go to Ireland every year.
