Guide and Hotel in Siam Riep
We are considering using Ponhearry as a guide and he recommended either the La Residence d'Angkor or the Victoria Angkor Resort. We are concerned about being able to eat cooked food that is "safe." He advised against the Sofitel Royal Angkor because of location. We do tend to prefer central locations.
Any comments on Ponhearry or choice of hotels?
Thank you.

We were in Siem Reap last December and asked for Ponheary as a guide. As she was not available we got her brother Dara. Excellent he was- friendly, punctual and knowledgeable. We highly recommend him. His driver (Mr. Hong) was great too.
We stayed at the Holiday Angkor. It was pretty nice.
Ate street food twice. No problems. For local cuisine, we went to a place called Khmer Kitchen 3 times.
Enjoy your trip.

We had no problems whatsoever with the food quality while we were in Cambodia. The only discomfort I had was from my own attempts to avoid illness, not the food that we ate. The malarone that I took to avoid malaria upset my stomache a little, so I ate in some less authentic places a few nights - my favorite of the western restaurauts was Tell, which has stomache comforting swiss food. We also really enjoyed dinner and drinks at FCC. We tried to go with Ponheary who gets consistently good reviews, but she was unavailable, as was her brother. We went with someone else she recommended (can't remember his name) who was fine. I hope you'll have a wonderful trip!

The food in Siem Reap is safe everywhere tourists eat. Even the places tourists don't eat are safe. I eat street food here every day and have no problems whatsoever. It's improved immensely. Please enjoy the food; there are some great restaurants in town.

Both of the hotels Ponheary recommended are equally lovely and well located. The Residence has a salt water pool, if that matters. Check their websites and see which one speaks to you. You won't go wrong either way.
