Goodwood Park Hotel

Has anyone stayed at this property? If so, what are your thoughts. They have a lot of different types of rooms available along with a Parklane Suite which is in a separate building from the main hotel. The Parklane are split level apartment type of accommodations as well.

I'm just trying for a different kind of comfortable but luxurious style of accomodation other than the major hotels. If anyone has any other suggestions, I would be pleased to hear them. I like the looks of the Goodwood because it is not some huge highrise like some of the other 4-5 star hotels in Singapore. It also seems to be in a good location.

The Chinatown area seems fun as well.

Thanks!

Hi Auntylynne,
We actually stayed at the Goodwood Park Hotel for six weeks while we finished renovating our house. We stayed in the Parklane and I would recommend that you stay in the main hotel itself. The suites are not actually as nice as the rooms which have been renovated IMO. Also, IMO the hotel is a solid 4 star hotel with terrific food and a good location. Honestly, I think they have some of the best hotel food (day to day - sandwiches, Chinese, etc.) in S'pore. Hope this helps a little! Have fun!

The Goodwood is respectable and comfortable and in a fairly good location; however it is decidedly NOT luxurious. It's of the old colonial style but has not been renovated so is still rather stodgy and old fashioned (not in a particularly charming sense.)

Although it's part of a big group I'd say the Four Seasons is the best small-to-medium size hotel. Very comfortable, good service, good food, lovely facilities and great location.

Hi again Auntylynne,
Agree with Marmot the GWP is a solid 4 star (not 5 star) hotel that is not luxurious. The main hotel rooms were renovated about 5 years ago though and are nicer than the Parklane suites which I would guess were done about eight years ago. No valet service here except on weekends and the pool is both simple and mediumsize - no slide, cold towels, or bells and whistles. The food is really super and the location is good (location is on par with the Shangri-La better than Traders but not as good as the 4Seasons-IMO).
Agree with Marmot that the Four Seasons is far superior to the Goodwood Park Hotel. Another excellent small - medium size hotel is The Raffles Hotel. You get the same wonderful colonial feeling but it is much more luxurious than the GWP. Nothing comes to mind in Chinatown - the Berjaya is also much more 3-4 star as opposed to lux 5 star. The Scarlett should open near Club Street in Chinatown next year and is being billed as the only truly luxurious boutique hotel in S'pore however, it isn't open yet so don't know much else about it - anyone? Have fun!

Thanks for the replies. I have emailed the Scarlet for rates. By the way, which Four Seasons are we speaking of. Aren't there 2 in Singapore? The Regent looks to be a little smaller than the other one on Orchard Road.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Lynne

Hi again Auntylynne,

The 4S I am thinking of is the 4S not the Regent. The 4S is quite a bit nicer than the Regent IMO and I also find it to be more conveniently located. While the 4S isn't actually on Orchard Road it is linked to Orchard Road via an indoor walkway to/through the Hilton Hotel. The 4S has much more of a "artsy, boutiquey" feel to it with a reading/sitting room for guests next to the lobby than the Regent which, while it may actually have fewer rooms, is a large atrium style hotel design. The Ritz Carlton also has an artsy feel to it but it feels like (and IS) a MUCH larger hotel to me while the 4S has something of that boutique feel to it. I have only eaten at the Regent but I haven't stayed there - while I have stayed at the 4S - so I can't really compare rooms. This may not really help you, sorry, but hopefully it is a starting point! Have a fun and safe trip!

Have a look at the Garden wing of the Shangri La. A seperate wing to the main hotel. The rooms have balcony's overlooking the pool and have a modern tropical feel. The rooms open out into an open air lobby with a tropical garden. Superb!
