Good place for early dinner in Saigon

My wife and I will be arriving in the morning on Xmas day, coming straight from NYC (via Taiwan). If past trips are any indication, I don't expect to get that much sleep on the plane - although I'm sure we'll nap some... but usually by 5PM or so, we are exhausted, so we'd like to go somewhere for dinner within easy walking distance, and not that long of a meal.

We're staying in District 1, just off of Dong Khoi St. We'd like to go somewhere Vietnamese, as opposed to other cuisines... also, local restaurant (not catering to tourists) is fine.

Thanks for your recommendations...

Don't think it's that's far from where you are staying... I dreamt of their chilli beef for weeks after....

Thanks. Do you know if there is a difference between Quan Ngon 138, and Quan An Ngon (now called Nha Hang Ngon) on Pasteur St (right near our hotel). They seem very similar, and I've seen lots of great reviews for the latter.

On the map, Quan Ngon 138 actually looks quite far from the hotel area of Dong Khoi...

I think the Pasteur street one has moved and is the one I linked too, if it hasn't then go to the one on Pasteur street.. ( I did look at it before I posted the link as I wasn't sure about the 138 bit but I think it's the same one)
As I said we really enjoyed it.
There is one in Hanoi too....

Should add, we stayed in district 1 , I don't know where you hotel is in relation to the one we stayed at but I really don't recal it being far. Taxis are everywhere and can easily take you there.

We also ate at the Tempke Club , which if I recall we walked too, which again had great food. It's not "off" the tourist trail though.....

We were in Saigon last week. A second vote for Temple Club. Our favorite, though, was Hoa Tuc. Make a reservation for the patio. The food was delicious and the setting was lovely.

There are many places around Buivien street, I always go for local food but if you want some fancy restaurant maybe try KhanhCasa right at the corner Bufallo bar
