Go ahead...Eat the street food and buffets!

It seems that being careful about what you eat when traveling may not reduce your risk of getting Montezuma's Revenge.

...<i>The major advice clinics give is, "Watch what you eat." The CDC even has an app to help you decide whether or not to put that raw cheese or carnitas into your mouth.
The app is appropriately named "Can I Eat This?"
That strategy won't hurt, but also might not help. Science just doesn't back it up, says Daniel Leung, an infectious disease doctor at the University of Utah.>/i>...

Ok, BigRuss. Here are some more regional names:

Thailand trots, Bali Belly, Asian Arse, Rangoon Runs, Saigon squirts, Gandhi's Revenge, Delhi Belly, Bombay Belly, Buddha butt, Mummy's Tummy,

Interesting article, Icuy. I didn't realize that Pepto Bismol could be taken to prevent Montezuma's, and not just used after the fact. Thanks for posting.

BigRuss, many of us here were raised as ladies, and we wouldn't dare use the "d" word for upset stomachs. Icuy was showing the same respect for her upbringing as I would have done.

I'm not telling her to say the D word, I'm saying there's no MONTEZUMA in Asia. I've heard Delhi Belly for India and Pharaoh's Revenge for Egypt, but the others she listed are even better.

I was not raised as a lady. "Montezuma's revenge" and "Delhi belly" are colloquial terms for traveler's diarrhea (TD). Those terms all have the same meaning. They are all correct while "upset stomach" is not (it could mean indigestion).

I have had: Bali belly in Cologne, Montezuma's Revenge in Nusa Dua, Delhi belly in Guatemala, and Pharoah's Revenge in Udaipur.

Was not aware there was anything wrong with the word diarrhea. Bizarre. Perhaps this is a UK-IS ism. Can't be an age thing.
