Getting around in Ubud
We are staying in a villa about 20 minutes north of Ubud. Part of the services at the villa are once daily round trip rides into town to any location.
My question is how does one get around once in town to some of the places too far to reach on foot like Setia Darma House and Semar Kuning Art, etc?
Taxis? Will the driver wait?
Can one hire a driver for shorter, local trips around town?
I know there are some seasoned Bali travelers here and would love to hear how you do it.

Transportation is readily available n Ubud, but there are no metered taxis. Outside of town, your villa manager can arrange a car and driver for you or you can usually find a transport hub in the village. In town, you can respond to the many queries of "transport?"
Transport can be hired by the hour, by the trip or by a half or full day. The going rate by the hour is IDR125,000 (about USD9.00) which is usually -- but not always -- negotiable. You will generally get a better rate if you negotiate a flat price for a specific destination (and return) or by several hours. Your driver will be happy to wait for you for forever long it takes.
As always, negotiate before you get in. This is Ubud's busiest week so rates are inflated. Drivers all have cell phones so if you find someone you like you can keep in touch.

We returned from our Bali trip last week. Your advice and information regarding taxis in Ubud was spot-on! There were lots of choices for getting around and it all worked out. Our villa driver made sure we were taken care. Thanks again.
